COURTHOUSE SQUARE
The county seat of my ancestral Cumberland County, Illinois is laid out in a classic checkerboard grid fashioned around a central square and a beautiful Italianate brick courthouse. On the lawn is a pavilion that is used for public gatherings that vary from singings and political speech making to auctions.
The traumatic events of September 11, 2001 have forever engraved on our minds the term of “twin towers.” This theme came to mind when I captured this view of the pavilion with its cupola mimicking the details of the clock tower on top of the courthouse beyond.
