COVERED BRIDGE AT DAWN
Adjacent to the fairgrounds outside of my ancestral home town in Illinois is this re-created covered bridge. The original bridge was built in 1832, but was washed out in 1865. Over the next 50 plus years, two other bridges were built at this site, but were also damaged or destroyed by floods. At the turn of the 21st century, a copy of the original Jackson truss bridge was built with modern materials that made it strong enough to carry modern vehicles including semi-trailers.
I arrived at dawn one morning to capture this image while the sun was coming up over the horizon to melt away the fog hanging over the meandering river on this crisp early autumn day.
