Another interesting deviation from my architectural emphasis with churches was this project for our local animal shelter that uses down-scaled elements of a horse barn for housing dogs awaiting adoption. This new facility is used for healthy animals, while those that are sick or not people-friendly remain in the adjacent older facility. The new kennel provides cubicles for one or two dogs each with both interior and exterior areas that are separated by a swinging pet door. Behind this building is a small park area with a dog run where people can “test-walk” a dog they are considering adopting. Plans have also been drawn for a similar facility for cats at this location.
