For a few years, my in-laws owned a vacation property on Florida’s Emerald Coast. We traveled down there two to three times a year to enjoy the “good life” of a professionally manicured gated community of houses you see in magazines. I painted a number of scenes around there, including this view looking westward across the backwaters of the Gulf of Mexico toward Destin, Florida. Not visible in this image is a very faint detail of the bay bridge about 10 miles distant at the center of the setting sun.
